MUMBAI: The police recently booked former billiards champion Michael Ferreira (75) in a
cheating and forgery case involving the sale of a property in Gorai, it has emerged just days after the Padma Bhushan awardee was named in connection with the case against QNet, a multilevel marketing company
Ferreira allegedly forged his Canada-resident cousin's power of attorney to sell the property to a builder. The police recently initiated the process to issue a red-corner notice against him.
Ferreira's grandfather had many properties and sold one of the Gorai properties to the 87-year-old complainant's mother before Independence.
Ferreira claimed his rights on the property and on February 8, 2000, registered the power of attorney of his cousin, Peter.
"Peter visits India after regular intervals; we inquired with the concerned authorities and learnt that he had not visited the country when the power of attorney was signed," police inspector Gokulsing Patil said. "It indicates that Ferreira had introduced someone else as Peter to sign the documents."
Deputy commissioner of police (zone-11) Mahesh Patil said Ferreira had introduced someone else as Peter to complete the legalities required for power of attorney.
In 2011, Ferreira sold the property to builder Manish Agrawal and his cousin Sanjay with the help of the forged power of attorney, said the police. When complainant learnt about it he approached the Gorai police.
The police arrested the Agrawal brothers on November 25; they were later released on bail. The police learnt Ferreira flew to Malaysia on August 16. The police said that they need to arrest him in the case to inquire about the person who he introduced a Peter.
Ferreira, 75, a Padma Bhushan recipient, also accused in QNet case with the city economic offences wind and they had issued a lookout-notice against him recently. Ferreira is a stakeholder in QNet that has been accused of using the banned binary-pyramid business model for their multi-level marketing scheme to entice investors.  Source - Timesofindia.com  mlmnewspaper.com  mlmguru.in   DATE 05-JAN-2013
