FDCI : Direct selling firms plan agitation, threatens strike

Posted by Admin  |  at  4:53 AM

Alleging police harassment,direct-selling companies and distributors on Tuesday said that they were planning agitations and would go on strike if the government fails to curb their mistreatment within 45 days.
The Forum for Direct Selling Companies and Consumers of India (FDCI),an association of direct-selling companies and distributors, has also asked the Centre for framing regulation for the multi-level marketing

(MLMs) companies and amending the Prize Chits and Money Circulation (Banning) Act,1978,which is allegedly being used by the police.

The development comes in wake of recent police action in Kerala, where Amway India managing director and chief executive William Scott Pinckney and two senior officials of the company were arrested under the Chit Fund Act for allegedly cheating members of the direct sales network. The trio was granted bail later. However, the move had generated much protests amongst direct selling companies. The Indian Direct Selling Association, which represents 18 direct selling firms in India, had come out in their support, asking for a separate legislation for the sector.
